Why Not Hire a Car In Chiang Mai With a Driver

Filed under: car hire — fastcarhire @ 11:29 am

Chiang Mai unlike the rest of Thailand is cool and sometimes even cold. The reason being its high altitude in the northern mountainous region of Thailand. For Thais who live in the hot and humid south of Thailand a trip to Chiang Mai in the north is like a trip to the north pole. It is not really cold by western standards but I would advise packing a few sweaters along with those hiking boots.

I mention hiking boots as this region is famed for its hiking trails. Hikes can vary from a short day hike to a hike lasting a few days your choice. Chaing Mai is also well know for the hill tribes that live in the nearby mountain regions. You will also see members of the hill tribes in Chiang Mai most are selling wares but you will fall in love with their wonderful colorful and exotic costumes and those wide eyed innocent smiles.

If hiking is to strenuous then the other option is to hire a car preferably a 4×4 to help with the steep hills and go exploring this beautiful region of Thailand. In fact car hire or prearranged tour trips are the only way to experience this remote region of Thailand.

Most people arrive via airplane from the Bangkok Dun Muang domestic airport; please note this is can change so do check with airline in advance. If you have time the train from Bangkok is an attractive option.

Chiang Mai offers a wide range of accommodation from budget hotels to world class hotels.

Driving Tip : Unlike other parts of Thailand especially Bangkok the roads are not congested and driving is easy be sure to have a good map of the region, these are normally provided by the rental companies but are also available in any large petrol stations in Chaing Mai.

The town itself is quiet but does have an outdoor market which is open every evening, a good selection of pubs and restaurants surround the market area. However do visit the river side region with a good selection of bars that offering first class music and alfresco dining by the riverside.

Driving Tip : Tour guides or drivers can be hired for as little as THB500 per day so let them do the driving wile you relax and enjoy the passing scenery.

Why Hire a Car in Thailand

Filed under: car hire — fastcarhire @ 8:20 am

For most people, a trip to Thailand is a once in a lifetime experience. Many tourists arrive into the main airport and travel onward via plane to either Phuket in the south or Koh Samui. Why not make the most of this once in a lifetime trip and plan a fly drive holiday?

Spend your fist few nights in downtown Bangkok getting accustomed to the language and culture. Don’t let the busy traffic put you off. Once you leave Bangkok the roads are good and there are signs posted in English. Do buy a map before leaving Bangkok as it’s difficult to find one outside the city of Bangkok.

Car Hire Thailand Tip: Most car rental companies in Bangkok and other Thailand tourist locations offer free delivery to and collection from your hotel.

Just a few hours drive from Bangkok in a southerly direction is the charming fishing village of Hua Hin , Hua Hin offers a host of spa resorts and golf courses. Don’t be surprised to see a few famous people as some spa resorts are very exclusive.

Car Hire Thailand Tip: rental cars are strictly not allowed outside the borders of Thailand and if taken outside all insurance will be null and void.

Spend a few nights in Hua Hin and move further south and visit Koh Samui or Phuket or both. If your rental is over 3 days you can just ask to have your car collected from your final resort is the south of Thailand free of charge.

Car hire Thailand Tip: You may take your rental car on a Ferry to the Islands but this must be arranged with the ferry company and rental company in advance, the ferry company will ask for car registration so you need to book your car rental first.

Car Hire in Malaysia

Filed under: car hire — fastcarhire @ 1:55 pm

Malaysia is fast becoming a popular long haul destination with the western European tourist and prospective retiree.

Unlike neighboring Thailand with it tough rules and regulations on land ownership, Malaysia has removed the red tape and opened its borders to the retiree market. Another major plus is the fact that retirement homes are relatively cheap. This open approach is making Malaysia a very popular destination for those seeking a second holiday or a retirement home.

To discover any new country quickly it is best to have your own means of transportation which normally involves hiring a rental car.

Driving tip in Malaysia: Forget the road map and hire a navigation system. This will save you time and lower the stress levels. Most car rental companies now offer this as an additional extra and charge a small daily fee. Kuala Lumpur or KL as it is known locally, is the normal starting point with its many attractions, not least the Patrones twin towers. Before the security clampdowns, it was possible at certain times to ride the elevator to the top floor. Rental car is the best way to get around and offers more freedom, however KL does have a good mass transit system.

Driving tip in Malaysia: Always carry some extra Ringit for the Toll Fees or purchase a prepaid toll card.

If you like to gamble then take a trip in your rental car to the nearby region of Genting which offers a variety of entertainment for all the family including casinos, amusements, fun arcades and shopping. Do pack some warm clothes as Genting is at high altitude and it doe get cold.

Genting is an easy 51 km ride drive from Kuala Lumpur in a North easterly direction.

Summer’s around the corner (pun intended!)

Filed under: car hire, car rental, collecting a rental car — Tags: , , , , — fastcarhire @ 4:23 am

June is a couple of days away and the car rental business has moved up a gear (more puns).

This little blog post is to remind you to book your car rental now!

The reasons for booking (and paying for your rental to secure your vehicle) now are:

  1. There are lots of people booking vehicles now and you want to get the size of vehicle that suits your requirements
  2. Many depots end up renting out ALL of their vehicles so there might not be any vehicles available when you want to get your car

BOOK NOW TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!
